Mr & Mrs Lagrue had bought a redeveloped house in Sutton, Ely that had a large kitchen illuminated by 16 GU10 50w halogen light bulbs. This provided a great deal of light – so much that it was described by Mrs Lagrue as being “lit up like the flight deck of the USS Enterprise”. The environmentally friendly family were constantly aware of the power being used when the lights were on.
Eventually they talked to Roly at Eco Installer. After a quick calculation Roly confirmed that the 16 bulbs together were using 800w, which meant that having the lights on for 10 minutes was about the same as boiling the kettle for 3 minutes!
Roly recommended replacing the GU10 halogen bulbs with modern Calex light emitting diode (LED) bulbs which simply used the GU10 fitting but consume just 3w of power. The LED bulbs are a ‘Warm white’ and are designed to look the same as halogens.
The new lights are now in place and Mr & Mrs Lagrue are delighted with their purchase. The light levels are as good as before but, as Mr Lagrue says, “All 16 lights together now use less power (48w) than just one of the original 50w bulbs. I would recommend Eco Installer to anyone for their knowledge and helpfulness”
