Insulation grants will not last forever. The current scheme was due to end in 2011, until a one year extension had been announced. It is estimated that all funding for cavity wall & loft insulation will cease completely by 2015.
Grants can stop and start, particularly on the free schemes. Apply now while grants are still available and waiting times are low.
Free insulation grants are available to private households where anyone is aged 70 and above or anyone is in receipt of certain benefits, tax credits or allowances. All other home owners and private tenants will still qualify for a partial grant (see examples below).
Loft Insulation- £300 before - only £149 after grant applied
Cavity Wall Insulation- £500 before - only £199 after grant applied
Loft & Cavity – £800 before - only £298 after grant applied

Grants are provided as part of the Government’s new Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT).
The major utility companies (British Gas, NPower, E.ON, EDF, Scottish Power, Scottish & Southern Energy) have to meet targets to reduce carbon emissions by paying for insulation in domestic properties.
