Wet rooms can be stylish and practical too

Wet rooms are a highly desirable solution for those designer shower spaces, and it’s easy to understand why. Contemporary bathroom and wetroom design focuses on sleek lines and minimal materials, providing a beautifully modern, spacious showering experience.

There are also many practical reasons to install a wetroom, including providing safe showering for the elderly and less-able. In this case, instead of tiling, a non-slip sheet vinyl should be used for the flooring, with ancillary products like grab rails, curtains and shower doors for additional safety and comfort.

A wet room is space where the floor and walls are waterproofed to prevent leaking, allowing the entire space to act as a shower area. Following waterproofing the floor is tiled and slopes down to a grating which covers the drain; in some cases a minimal glass screen is used to define the shower zone and prevent splashing over into other areas – where there might be a basin or a toilet.
